Hell of a year, that 2020. Maybe one day we’ll look back and laugh — and while it’s not that day yet, I think with the calendar finally turned to 2021 it’s probably safe to write about some achievements from the latter half of the year.
Firstly - the In This Together podcast, for Macedon Ranges Shire Council.
It was a rough year for the Macedon Ranges, caught up in Victoria’s months-long second-wave lockdowns. I was brought on to produce podcasts for council that documented what was happening in the community, and how residents were responding to the challenges of the pandemic. From that brief, I worked with my fantastic co-producer Sajithra Nithi to develop In This Together, and I’m really proud of the diversity of what we’ve covered, as well as the quality we achieved with a show recorded almost entirely remotely. The project is ongoing and there’ll be more episodes into 2021.
Secondly, I was brought back in as a freelance audio editor for Leading Edge, a podcast from Henley Business School.
After a successful first season, the client and I were both keen to work together again. It would be a lot different this time, though — the recording studio we’d used was closed due to the pandemic, and I had returned to Melbourne while the client remained in London. Luckily, we successfully negotiated the time difference and the challenges of remote recording to put together another set of interesting interviews with accomplished academics.
Here’s to more great projects in 2021!
